Herzog and de Meuron have recently been appointed to carry out the M + Museum in Hong Kong. The choice was made in a shortlist in which the participants was of the caliber of Renzo Piano, SANAA, and Toyo Ito. The M+ Museum will be the new center dedicated to visual culture (design, architecture, film, ...) focused on the period between the twentieth and twenty-first century.
The deadline for completion of the project, which will follow Herzog and de Meuron in collaboration with TPF Farrell, is scheduled for 2017. The structure designed in the shape of T, will be located along the Victoria Harbour and will be one of the first plants to be opened in the West Kowloon Cultural District. The facade will be illuminated by a giant LED system that will allow the use as a giant screen. The aim of this project is to bring Asia to be remembered in the history of design.
