The Hervé Van Der Straeten gallery, of the homonymous artist, opened in 1999 in the heart of the Marais district of Paris. It exhibits furniture, lighting, mirrors, objects and jewels of design, limited edition or unique pieces that interact with thematic exhibitions organized around the world.
The art of Hervé Van der Straeten has always stood out for its ability to mix heterogeneous forms of contemporary art, creating hybrids and oppositions in shapes and colors. His career began with jewelery creations, but currently its principal activity is the realization of projects of furnishing, as furniture or lighting.
The designer is also known for designing the interiors of many luxury French houses and for his collaboration in realizations of packaging for cosmetics and perfumes of major fashion houses including, for example, Dior. Van der Straeten likes mix warm and cool tones and materials as stone, velvet, silk and steel to create innovative designs that do not reject references to the Baroque.
The designer claims to derive its inspiration from historical architectural works as Gerrit T. Rietveld's or contemporary artists, among others Anish Kapoor and Robert Smithson. The attention to detail and use of materials is instead derived from his passion for the Nipponic culture, of which he does not omit artisan spirit.
