For the first time, until december 31st 2013, the entire space of the museum of Palazzo Grassi in Venice is entirely dedicated to the exhibition of a single artist: Rudolf Stingel. The exhibition designed specifically for these rooms presents new creations and works of the past years to give life to the most important European monographic exhibition dedicated to the artist.
Rudolf Stingel entirely cover the walls and floors of Palazzo Grassi with a tapestry on which are reproduced oriental motifs that draw inspiration from those who were representing on the celebrated sofa in the study of Freud. The artist's intent is to introduce visitors to an alienating environment, but where at the same time feel comfortable.
The visitor inside the hushed enviroment created by Stingel is lost in the observation of sparse works that overlap with some of the walls and is brought to pass through an internal journey that provides a reinvention of one's self and one's own imagination. The thirty works on display are from the collection of the artist, from private collections and have been developed some specially for the occasion between New York and Murano.
