The new ME London hotel is situated inside the area that included the structure of the old Gaiety Theatre, on the corner of Aldwych and Stran. The project is the work of Foster+Partners, which oversaw the creation of every detail. The bold geometries exploit dramatic spatial effects to enhance the architectural cohesion between internal and external. The aim is to create a unique atmosphere that combines elegance and functionality.
The distribution of the interior is divided according to an internal structure with a pyramidal shape, covered in white marble and illuminated from above, which runs in height all nine floors of the hotel and emphasizes the theatrical sensations of arriving. The experiential project is derived from the philosophy of yin and yang, the furnishings are made with monochrome contrasts black and white, and on a continuous transition from light to dark spaces.
The only exception to the rule of black and white is represented by warm tones of gray and hazelnut in some details of the common areas. Many elements of the furnishings were designed by Foster + Partners for the ME London Hotel. The combination of structure and materials, such as marble and leather, made in accordance with these monochrome palette gives the hotel a strong visual identity that defines the character of each space.
