The Lamu House is a unique hotel built on an island in Kenya. The architect Urko Sanchez has always been used to working in countries traversed by conflicts, wanted to reconstruct here a corner of peace and tranquility, creating a little piece of paradise. On the same island and following the same inspiration creates some time after The Red Pepper House and Milele House.
The creation of Lamu House starts from the restructuring of an old house of eighteenth century, extended with structures inspired by the nineteenth century and of spanish inspiration. The use of Swahili architecture and autochthonous techniques and materials, thread between the three projects, are combined with a passionate attention for detail. Structures propose themselves as a bridge between the knowledge of native culture and a love of nature without sacrificing any comfort.
The goal is to create of great scope environments, in which the feeling is always like being outdoors. This impression is accentuated in all the buildings, the creation of a courtyard typical of the houses of Lamu, breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and a constant contact with nature.
